Desalination timetable announced

Environment minister Cristina Narbona has unveiled Spain's ambitious desalination plant construction timetable, which forms the central plank of the government's Program Agua to supply the country's drought-prone regions with water. Before the end of August her ministry will award five construction tenders with a total annual capacity of 210 cubic hectometers; nine more plant contracts will be awarded before the end of the year with a total capacity of 120 cu hectometers/year; and another five plant tenders will be put out early next year with a total capacity of 60 cu hectometers/year.
