Thames Water escapes fine

RWE's Thames Water has escaped a fine by industry regulator Ofwat for missing its leakage targets, but has agreed to spend an extra £150 million pounds ($275.7 million) on repairing leaks in its ageing London pipe network - a suggestion originally made to Ofwat by Thames itself when its leakage rates were first highlighted by the regional drought back in the spring. Despite distribution losses being high on the political and regulatory agenda since the earlier drought of 1995 it has, nonetheless, taken three years of underperformance by Thames on the back of an already poor record for the regulator finally to show his teeth.
