Water UK calls for caution over government's building plans

As the UK government drives forward its plans for a massive program of new building in the southeast of England, the body representing UK water companies, Water UK, has sounded a cautionary note following its submission of evidence to the House of Commons in December 2005. Water UK is concerned that the Code for Sustainable Buildings lacks bite and purpose and it believes fiscal incentives such as a reduction in stamp duty might be considered. Water UK considers that the Code itself, when dealing to water efficiency, should include water efficient equipment such as dishwashers and washing machines, energy and resource efficient taps and bathroom fittings such as dual flush cisterns, which would help to use less water and reduce wastage.
