Xi'an primed as biggest connector production base in China

Xi'an City in Shaanxi province, northern China, is an integral manufacturing hubfor electronic components. There are an estimated 50 electronic component manufacturers in the city. Foreign-owned companies who have settled their production facilities in Xi'an include IBM, Intel, NEC, Philips and Infineon. Total sales for Xi'an's connectors has registered an annual growth rate of 37 percent from 1996 to 2007. The amount is forecast to reach $180 million in end-2007.
