This report considers the latest plans and strategies of operators that are subject to change due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Egypt. Omdia expects Egypt to have more market resilience than other North African countries based on historical trends showing continued growth in telecoms, even during crisis situations; however, overall revenue is still expected to develop negatively in 2020. This is driven by reduced sales of services, equipment, and accessories resulting from closed stores, which particularly impact mobile revenue. With over 95 million mobile subscriptions and 95.4% penetration at the end of 4Q19, subscription growth is becoming hard to achieve in Egypt, especially with rising costs of mobile phone services. There were over 7.3 million fixed broadband subscriptions in Egypt in 4Q19, with ADSL subscriptions growing by around 11.8% year-on-year (YoY).
