Australia is in the grip of the worst drought in its recorded history, one that scientists last fall termed a "one in a thousand year" event. It is the fifth year of severe drought for many regions of what is already the world's driest continent. And Australian Prime Minister John Howard is under fire for refusing to link his country's drought to climate change.
