Carbon capture and storage technologies will receive a significant and quick boost in funding, according to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who said last week that the Department of Energy is gearing up to begin releasing more than $ 160 billion in grant and loan authority from the President's $787 billion economic stimulus package signed last week. Although Chu said the Department is still figuring out the logistics of who will receive what, he told reporters at the Platts Energy Podium last week that the FutureGen CCS research and development plant slated for construction in Mattoon, Ill., is one project that the DOE is "looking at very closely."
