Vladimir Georgievich Trifonov Turns 75

摘要

On May 9, 2011, Vladimir Georgievich Trifonov turned 75. Since graduating with honors from Moscow University in 1958 he has worked at the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (GIN RAS). Through all these years he has conducted groundbreaking research and produced many notable results.First, it was a good geological school in Central Kazakhstan, where he studied the relationship between Late Paleozoic tectonics and volcanism. These studies resulted in a monograph (his candidate's dissertation), published in 1967. His next area of interest was lunar geology. For the first time, scientists had the opportunity to study the nature of the Earth in terms of comparative planetology. Trifonov was among the first researchers in this field. Using original methods, he compiled a geological-morphological map of the Moon, published in 1974, with explanatory notes titled Volcanism and Tectonics of the Moon.
