Einweggeschirr und To-Go-Verpackungen prägen den heutigen Konsumalltag und sind eine wichtige Ursache für stetig steigende Abfallmengen in Deutschland. Der NABU hat erstmals Daten zu den Abfallmengen durch Einweggeschirr und To-Go-Verpackungen in Deutschland erheben lassen. Laut Gesellschaft für Verpackungsmarktforschung (GVM) tragen Einweggeschirr und To-Go-Verpackungen mit fast 350.000 Tonnen Abfall inzwischen erheblich zum Abfallaufkommen in Deutschland bei. Systemgastronomie und Imbisse bringen jeweils circa ein Drittel des Einweggeschirrs bzw. der To-Go-Einwegverpackungen in Verkehr (nach Tonnage). Aber auch das Einweggeschirr, das Privathaushalte zum nicht-kommerziellen Verbrauch kaufen, ist mit 19 Prozent eine wesentliche Abfallquelle. Zwischen 1994 und 2017 stiegen die Abfallmengen um 44 Prozent. Die Treiber des hohen und steigenden Abfallaufkommens sind sowohl sozialer, kultureller als auch technischer Natur. Auch hat Einweg gegenüber Mehrweg Kostenvorteile für die Inverkehrbringen Die GVM prognostiziert einen weiteren signifikanten Anstieg der Tonnagen, sollte nicht regulierend in den Markt eingegriffen werden. Der NABU fordert eine konsequente Förderung von Mehrweg im Außer-Haus-Verzehr durch die Gesetzgebung. But disposable tableware, bought by private households for non-commercial consumption, is also a major source of waste (19 percent). Between 1994 and 2017, waste volumes increased by 44 percent. The drivers of the high and rising volume of waste are of social, cultural and technical nature. Moreover, single-use table ware and containers have cost advantages for the distributors in comparison with their reusable counterparts. The GVM predicts a further significant increase in tonnages, if there will be no regulative intervention. NABU calls for a consistent promotion of reusable alternatives for out-of-home consumption through legislation. It points to the danger of substitution strategies, which do not have any ecological benefits and might even have worse environmental effects.
