The cultural center has an urbanisttc key position in this rapidly growing new central business district in Beijing. You will see it from far away at the end of a park at the bottom of the one of the tallest highrise buildings of the entire world that has the amazing height of 500 m. The new building also will have a central position in the pedestrian traffic system of the new business center. In the very heart of the cultural center there will be several thousand people every day arriving from 3 different subway stations leaving to different directions of this new finance center from Beijing. A huge hall in this location would only repeat the already existing qualities within the urban context of monumentality and openness in a diminished scale. Because the volume of this new cultural center is in comparison to the massive highrise buildings and in comparison to the scale of the park in front of the building quite small. In fact this contrast is an outstanding quality of the cultural center that is already defined by the existing masterplan. This very project is based exactly on this rela- tionship full of tension.
