DYSON CLEANS UP AT AWARDS

Inventor, entrepreneur, philanthropist and design activist, Sir James Dyson was the overwhelming choice of the readers' poll for his Outstanding Lifetime Contribution to Design at this year's FX Awards. He received the honour at the awards event presented by TV's Hugh Dennis (pictured).rnSince launching the world's first bagless vacuum cleaner in 1993, Dyson has sold more than 25 million in 45 countries, and the company has continued to develop technologies such as the Dyson two-drum washing machine (2000), and the Dyson Digital Motor (2004). The DDM powers the Dyson Airblade high-velocity hand-dryer (2006) which dries hands in 10 seconds, twice as fast as conventional dryers, using about a fifth of the energy.
