EU activities in preparation of the procurement of the ITER divertor

In view of the EU responsibility in the procurement of the ITER divertor and its associated remote handling (RH) equipment, a number of activities are being carried out with the EU industry and with the EU national laboratories. As far as the high heat flux technologies are concerned, the demonstration of the capability to build small, medium and full-scale prototypes has been already demonstrated in the past. These components have been high heat flux tested above the ITER requirements. A complete set of full-scale divertor components are being manufactured. After completion, they will be used for the development and qualification of the assembly procedures and for full-scale hydraulic tests. With regard to RH, major efforts are being focused on the design and development of a new set of divertor movers relevant to the current ITER design, together with the creation of a new RH mock-up facility to act as a test-bed for their first prototypes. In parallel, the EU maintains its activity in the area of cassette refurbishment in the ITER hot cell, which has close feed back to the cassette design. A significant effort is also being carried out on the development of suitable acceptance criteria for the divertor plasma-facing components and on the support to the design activities.
