In 1999 I ORGANIZED an international conference in con - junction with a regional annual meeting of forest mensurationists, biometricians, modelers and statistic cians. This was the First International Conference on Mea - surements and Quantitative Methods and Management, which took place on Nov. 17-18, 1999, AT Jekyll Island, Georgia. A few months before the conference, Roberrt Haight, then Editor of Forest Science, offered me an opportunity to Organize a speciall issue of Forest Science comparising se - Lected papers relating to the conference themes.
