An exploration of centre of pressure under the delivery leg during nine-pin bowling

Nine- and 10-pin bowling are commonly played sports for either competitive or leisure activity. The aim of either version of the game is to use balls to strike as many pins as possible with the minimum number of deliveries. Ten-pin bowling is the American version, playing with a large ball with holes provided for finger grip. It originates from the European nine-pin game which uses smaller balls without finger holes. These forms differ not only by the technical characteristics and equipment used in the bowling rink but also by the technique of execution and physical effort. While studies of 10-pin bowling have investigated physical and physiological characteristics of participants (Tan, Aziz, & Chuan, 2000; Tan et al., 2001), as well as the variability and kinematic patterns of the front foot slide (Razman et al., 2009, 2010), there has been no published literature related to nine-pin bowling in the scientific literature.
