Foods, unlike durable goods such as electronics and furniture, are usually perishable products and heterogeneous mixtures. It is not easy to create mathematical models for the physical and chemical properties of foods to predict their behavior during processing. In addition, foods have safety aspects and relatively very short shelf life. Therefore, food packaging is quite different from the packaging of durable products.
