Mouse urine and droppings discovered on food and shelves at Croydon TK Maxx

Croydon's TK Maxx store has been given the worst possible food hygiene rating after inspectors found mouse urine and faeces on some food put out for sale as well as evidence it had been "gnawed". The store, on Whitehorse Road, was given the zero star rating after an inspection by an environmental officer from Croydon Council on 11 April 2018, but the extent of the food hygiene failures have been revealed in a report now released after a Freedom of Information request by the Advertiser. The report noted that there was an ongoing rodent infestation at the store, with signs it had been there for at least a month, and that the procedures in place to control pests were "inadequate". The report, sent to TK Maxx on 1 May, said: "Food on display was contaminated by rodent urine and faeces and had been visibly gnawed. Food must be protected from contamination." "There was an active mouse infestation at the store resulting in mouse urine and faeces on shelving. These areas require cleaning and disinfection."
