Moving and Handling Construction Materials

This HSE document, which is for FOD Construction Inspectors, provides a structured approached to the inspectionand enforcement of construction activities involving the moving and handling of construction materials. It sets out aclear intervention strategy through three key stages of a construction project: ‘Design, Delivery and Movement’.It points out that Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are a priority topic for HSE and its Construction Division (CD).This guidance aims to assist Inspectors by providing a structured approach to the inspection of moving and handlingconstruction materials. Relevant guidance to assist with decision making when considering enforcement action ishighlighted. The guidance sets out the progressive approach to the inspection of moving and handling constructionmaterials and identifies key considerations at each stage of inspection.
