The Digitalisation of Work: Psychosocial Risk Factors and Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders

Digitalisation of the economy has changed the nature of work through teleworking, platform work and mobile workbased on information and communications technology (ICT). When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, more and moreEuropeans started working from home as social distancing measures were put in place.This article from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) reviews the impact thatdigitalisation is having on Europe’s workforce and looks at its effect on psychosocial risk factors (such as, job strain,workload, work-life balance) and physical risk factors (like repetitive tasks, posture) for work-relatedmusculoskeletal disorders. It also discusses the prevention of such disorders and the promotion of occupationalhealth and well-being.
