Watching with Vigilance

No. 13 squadron was formed at Gosport, Hants, on January 10, 1915, from a nucleus of 8 Squadron. The unit was later supplemented with an additional Flight from 22 Squadron. After a minimal amount of training, with a particular emphasis on bombing and aerial photography, 13 was declared fit to proceed to the Western Front. The squadron deployed to France in October 1915 as a Corps reconnaissance unit equipped with Royal Aircraft Factory BE.2Cs. The unit arrived at St Omer, but just a couple of days later moved to Vert Galand.
