Formed from a nucleus of 28 Squadron at Gosport, Hants, on April 15,1916,41 Squadron was disbanded the following month, with no record of any aircraft being on strength at this time. Re-formed on July 16, the unit moved to St Omer, France, that October. No.41 was initially equipped with Vickers Gunbuses and Airco DH.2s.
