Flying Leonard in Canada

The article in the July 2008 issue regarding Leonard Cheshire (and concluded this month - ed) brings back a great memory of the time I had the opportunity to fly him from Montreal's Dorval airport to Ottawa in a light aircraft. On June 17,1972, Gp Capt Leonard Cheshire vc was part of a group invited to a 617 Squadron reunion being held on St Helens Island, Montreal, Quebec, arranged through Montreal Services Institute of which my father Sqn Ldr L J Macdonald dfc* dfm was the events organiser. I was fortunate to get an invitation to meet and talk with such an elite group of Bomber Command veterans when Cheshire, whom I had met before, came up to me and said: "You chaps are cads".
