Ferrying a 'clapped out' Beaufighter

I received my November copy of FlyPast this morning and being an ex-Beaufighter pilot went to pages 22 and 23, where to my surprise I found that the serial number on the illustrated 'Beau' was the one previous to the aircraft that I flew to India in January 1944 - namely X7888.rnI had been posted to India from 54 Operational Training Unit and told to pick up a 'Beau' from Filton. I wrongly assumed that I would get a new model since Filton made them, but instead I was given a reconditioned Mk.I with a straight tailplane as would have been fitted to X7887 in your article.
