Reg lane was one of Canada's most decorated bomber pilots. He completed two tours on HP Halifaxes before becoming the leader of the RCAF's only Pathfinder squadron. After learning to fly in Canada under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, Reg arrived in England in August 1941 to train as a bomber pilot. His first unit was 35 Squadron at Linton-on-Ouse, Yorkshire, where he joined 'B' Flight in October, commanded by Sqn Ldr Leonard Cheshire dso dfc.
