Przemyslaw Pawlowicz, Polish aviation historian writes in about the article Glorious 610 in the November 2008 issue, which was part of our series on the RAF's Auxiliary squadrons, Our Very Own. We state that on August 28,1940, Sgt Ronnie Hamlyn shot down five enemy aircraft, the first RAF pilot to claim five-in-a-day. Ronnie was not the first, he was the second! Four days before Polish pilot Sgt Antoni Glowacki of 501 (County of Gloucester) Squadron downed three Messerschmitt Bf 109s and two Junkers Ju 88s. So perhaps our phrasing should have described Ronnie as the first 'Brit'.
