Memorial to American airmen at Greenham

HRH The Princess Royal dedicated a new memorial at Greenham Common, Berks, on September 21. It commemorates two groups of US airmen who died in separate tragedies. Thirty-three men were killed when a training flight in a Horsa glider ended in disaster on December 12,1944. The glider crashed killing both pilots from the 88th Troop Carrier Squadron and all 31 paratroopers from the 17th Airborne Division on board.
