Although the Curtiss P-40 served in many different locations throughout World War Two, it is probably most famous for the exploits of the so-called 'Flying Tigers' in China. Officially known as the 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG), the Flying Tigers flew with the Chinese Air Force having trained in Burma before America entered the war. From late 1941, they flew the P-40B, regularly engaging Japanese fighters in combat. The group saw action for the first time on December 20,1941, less than two weeks after the Japanese attack on the US fleet at Pearl Harbor.
