One of the Fairey biplane's finest hours was its attack on the German battleship Bismarck on the evening of May 26,1941. Just a few days earlier, the enemy ship had sunk HMS Hood, with the loss of over 1,400 lives. This was a huge blow to the Royal Navy and clearly showed how dangerous the Bismarck was - sinking it became a top priority.
