For several of the multinational band of pilots involved in making Memphis Belle in the summer of 1989, it provided many a stand-out moment. For others it was the highlight of their flying careers. When else would they be part of an armada of B-17s escorted by Mustangs, or being attacked by Hispano Buchons 'playing' Messerschmitt Bf 109s? Twenty-five years on, the memories remain vivid. Even for hard-bitten warbird flyers, some with decades in the military to their names, this was a special experience. For the operators, the filming threw up a host of pressures and challenges, never previously encountered. Not for a long time had there been a production with so much aviation involvement in the UK. (The first part of this feature appeared in the August FlyPast.)
