Planes of Fame Skytrain under restoration

Work is continuing on the long-term restoration of the Planes of Fame Air Museum's Douglas C-47A Skytrain 42-92509 at Chino, California. Delivered to the USAAF on January 12,1944, it was sent to the UK where it flew with the RAF's 575 Squadron from Broadwell, Oxfordshire, as KG320. Beginning operations in February, the unit initially flew leaflet-dropping sorties over France and later dropped British paratroopers into Normandy on D-Day. The squadron also towed gliders to France on June 6 and then turned its attention to evacuating casualties. It went on to fly 'ops' over Arnhem during Operation Market Garden in September 1944.
