'Battle of Britain' film aircraft bought

As FlyPast closed for press, we learned that Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Ⅸ MH415 and several Hispano Buchons that flew in the 1969 film Battle of Britain had been purchased by a European collector. The 1943-built Spitfire, which also appeared in 1962's The Longest Day and last flew in 1973, fetched nearly £4m. The Buchons flew with the Spanish Air Force until 1965 when they were acquired by the film's producers to portray Messerschmitt Bf 109s. The Hispanos have remained in storage ever since. The buyer plans to restore several of the machines and will sell some of the others on.
