Douglas Dauntless to be restored at Air Zoo

Douglas SBD-2P Dauntless 2173 arrived at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, in Michigan, US, on July 1, where it will be restored. The aircraft ditched into Lake Michigan on February 18, 1944 during a US Navy training flight. Pilot Lt John Lendo survived the incident but later died in combat serving in the Philippines. The Dauntless remained on the bottom of the lake until June 2009, when it was removed by AST Recovery on behalf of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii's Pacific Aviation Museum.
