Determined to Display

'Challenging' is a good word to describe the times that British historic jet operators have experienced since the summer of 2015. For the North Weald-based Gnat Display Team the past year has been one of consolidation and building for the future. Last year, the team's Folland Gnat T. 1 trainers made a few UK airshow appearances, both as 'singleton' and a pair - see panel on page 84. Regular display pilots were Chris Heames, Mark Fitzgerald, Peter 'Willy' Hackett and Edwin 'Shorty' Brenninkmeyer while team chief Oliver Wheeldon continued to practise to achieve a display authorisation on the diminutive jet.
