It's sometimes said that the beat of a butterfly's wings can set off a storm in another land; that the smallest of things can lead to something disproportionately vast. While it's a theory that doesn't always stand up to scrutiny, it's certainly true that seemingly insignificant events can alter the entire course of life. For this writer, a chance encounter with Mark Hanna in the late 1990s led me - indirectly - into the role I have today at 'FlyPast'. Mark, to whom this issue is dedicated, was an inspirational figure who was tragically taken from us in an accident 20 years ago this month. A tribute to this great aviator - whose father, of course, was the similarly revered Ray - will be staged at Duxford's Battle of Britain Airshow on September 21 and 22.
