Our subject this month is the very smart Royal Navy Dominie HG709/999/ CU. It was operated by the PvNAS Culdrose Station Flight, Cornwall, throughout 1961-62, for liaison, communications and general transportation. Former postings for 709 included flying with 709 NAS at Lee-on-Solent in 1946, 703 NAS at Thorney Island the following year, and the RN Air Unit at Old Sarum in 1949. After a stint at Lossiemouth starting in 1957, it moved to Culdrose. While on detachment to the Royal Navy Engineering College at Manadon, Plymouth, it nosed over on landing at RAF Roborough, north of Plymouth, and was struck off charge on September 18, 1961. The airframe was purchased by Hants and Sussex Aviation, but it was burnt at Portsmouth Corporation rubbish tip in December 1962.
