Museum repaints Vulcan as Spitfire replica arrives

The North East Land, Sea & Air Museums (NELSAM), based on the former RAF Usworth and Sunderland airport site, has recently repainted Avro Vulcan B.2 XL319. The work was carried out by Bill Smith and the team that undertook restoration work on Donald Campbell's jet-engined hydroplane Bluebird K7. The 1961-built Vulcan served with 617 and 83 Squadrons among others, and was one of three that embarked on a goodwill tour of the US in 1982. The first of its type to be released to an independent UK collection, it arrived at NELSAM on January 21,1983 in the hands of Sqn Ldr R J Reeve and Sqn Ldr N McDougall DFC.
