Small Talk

Over the years the D. C. Maxecuters newsletter Max Fax, has included a number of plans for Dime Models that were produced in the nineteen thirties and forties. Almost all of those models could be scaled up and beefed up a bit to make Indoor or Park Flyer R/C airplanes. The new radio equipment that is weighed in grams might fly these airplanes just as they were designed, even with rubber power! This brings us to something I am not a big fan of―rules! Believe me, I am a believer in as few rules as possible! However, I do recognize that some rules are really necessary; for example, the Ten Commandments. Without that document I doubt civilization would ever have survived! Anyway, I would like to put forward one that is not a matter of survival but more a suggestion to keep things in good order. It has to do with the wing loading of R/C aircraft flown indoors. I would like to suggest that an upper limit of 2.5 ounces per 100 square inches of wing area be considered the heaviest wing loading allowed to be called "Indoor"!
