This unusual flying wing was a brain child of prolific Russian designer Boris Ivanovich Cheranovskij. He was a pioneer in designing flying wing aircraft. When he had just entered the Zhukovskii Academy in 1922, he proposed to build the flying wing design with parabolic platform. He was rejected, but the wing tunnel tests showed soundness of this type of wing planform. He built a simple glider, the BICh-1.
