Boeing is seeking an international launch customer for a 20% higher thrust version of the General Electric F414 turbofan that powers its F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.rnThe F414 enhanced performance engine (EPE) includes an all-new core and forward fan to dramatically increase the fighter's take-off performance, said Bob Gower, Boeing vice-president for the F/A-18E/F, at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.rnThe improvements would increase the engine's thrust rating to 26,600lb (118kN) from 22,000lb for the baseline F414-400.rnThe US Navy, Boeing and GE have also been developing durability improvements to reduce foreign object damage and specific fuel consumption for the F414, says Gower.
