Spiritual genetics. That was the overriding theme behind Chris Gardner's lunchtime keynote speech at last October's Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) Fall Executive Conference, which was held at The Intercontinental in Chicago. If Gardner's name sounds familiar to you, it's because he was the inspiration behind the 2006 uplifting drama The Pursuit of Happyness, based off of his book of the same name, where he was brilliantly portrayed by Will Smith. So just how do you define "spiritual genetics?" Certainly it's not a definition that you can look up in Webster's dictionary, as it's a term coined by Gardner himself. He says it's a concept that enables individuals to choose the spirit that they want to embrace in order to become the people that they want to be.
