The issue of corporate manslaughter and the responsibility of individuals for safety in their organisations has been highlighted by the recent criminal proceedings over the Hatfield rail disaster. Graham Ellicott calls on the government to get off the fence over corporate manslaughter. As most of you will probably know by now, under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order the onus for fire safety in existing buildings will shift even more onto the Responsible Person for the building. This will mean carrying out risk assessments, and acting on the findings to maintain and repair the installed fire protection systems in the building.
