Fire spread via cables in concealed voids is of increasing concern. Terry Day reports from the International Fire Conference for Wire and Cable held at the Cafe Royal, London, on 26 April 2000. This conference, organised by the Building Research Establishment, comprehensively covered the problem of fires in concealed voids in which large quantities of cables were involved. David Townsend (London Fire and Civil Defence Authority) described the investigation into the major fire at Earlham Street, London.
