Recent years have seen the technical development of tools available to the modern-day firefighter. Among these are positive pressure ventilation (PPV) fans, used to tactically ventilate a fire in order to release the products of combustion from a building and allow fresher air to enter. If used correctly and with confidence, PPV will save lives of civilians and firefighters alike, as well as reduce damage to property. It is, however, necessary to understand that PPV, when used in isolation, may be ineffective, and indeed may compromise safety.
