摘要

Unless a structure has no power (including secret, hidden extension cords to a neighbor's house), determining if electrical energy was involved in causing a fire is a primary task in almost every fire investigation. And, because wires — properly known as electrical conductors or cables — carry electricity from place to place, it's important to understand a bit about them. The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires manufacturers to mark virtually all conductors and cables with certain information that describes and identifies the conductor. For many conductors, the information must be on the insulation while others need a marker tape inside the cable or a tag attached to the coil, reel or carton of the cable or conductor. These requirements are in Article 310.11.
