Morning Pride Manufacturing was born in the basement of a dry goods store owned by Lawrence and Estelle Grilliot in Dayton, Ohio in 1921. Mrs. Grilliot took over the space to sew "morning dresses," garments women wore over their regular dresses when they cleaned the house. In 1924, at the request of a local fire equipment distributor, the company expanded its clothing line to include canvas duck coats for firefighters. In 1929, the company built its first stitching facility, a state-of-the-art manufacturing center in Dayton. From tarps to aprons to hospital gowns, the Grilliots kept the plant running as they built their fire gear business and continued to develop new and innovative products over the years.
