NFPA Apparatus and Maintenance Standards Undergo Major Reorganization

IN THE FALL OF 2018, THE APPARATUS Committee met in Orlando, Florida, to address the public comments that were submitted for National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus (2016). The findings of the committee were published in the first draft report, with a closing date of May 2019 for public comments, which would supply additional information to be considered for the second draft. Before the closing date for comments, the NFPA decided to reorganize the apparatus and maintenance standards, termed the "Emergency Response and Responder Safety Document Consolidation Plan." This made a lot of sense, as the various apparatus and maintenance standards had different dates for going through the renewal and updating process, which made assembling committee members (who are volunteers) a problem.
