Political storm clouds are gathering over Rome following the tabling of competing draft bills for the urgently needed reform of Italy's port laws, backed respectively by two major components of the country's centre-right governing coalition. The right-wing Lega Nord [Northern League], which derives its power from the affluent north, is backing the draft submitted on 17 February to parliament's transport committee by Liguria's transport councillor Vittorio Adolfo, who has the backing of 20 regions including the major ports of Genoa, La Spezia and Savona.
