London has traditionally been the undisputed centre of the international maritime publishing industry, unrivalled by any other city. It is the home to many venerable marine industry publications with a long and heralded legacy. Lloyd's List, the elder statesman of the bunch, dates back to the 18th century. Shipping World & Shipbuilder began publishing in 1883, the year in which Fairplay was launched. The Motor Ship appeared in 1920. Even relative newcomers, such as Seatrade and Safety at Sea, have been in circulation for 40 years or more.
