Record US fine rocks Princess Cruise Lines

Princess Cruise Lines (PCL) has agreed to plead guilty to seven US felonies and pay a USD40 million fine for deliberate dumping of untreated oil waste and for trying to cover it up. The amount breaks the previous record fine against a vessel operator for water pollution violations: Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) paid USD37 million after pleading guilty to 33 felony counts related to oil dumping from nine ships in 2006.
