Resistance grows to TPG takeover of iiNet – Malone says board ‘out of ideas’

Last week TPG announced it had made an offer to buy rival TPG for $1.4 billion in cash. The deal, like all deals, has a number of conditions. nOne is the usual regulatory approval - the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) must agree that it does not significantly reduce competition. That will probably not be a problem - there is a strong argument that even though it means fewer players, it does mean a stronger rival to Telstra, which ultimately benefits consumers.
