From a road with busy traffic to a pleasant city square

In 2009, Stritarjeva Street in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana was festively reopened. This former main road between the town hall and Tromostovje bridge, with heavy bus and lorry traffic, had undergone a complete metamorphosis. In line with the design of the Slovenian architectural firm Kombinat, the crude blacktop was replaced by a concentric pattern of granite cobblestones. Everywhere there are colourful, fanciful chairs, designed especially for this square, which you may move wherever you want. At night the space is lit up attractively. This way the road has changed from a noisy and stinking artery to a smart area to use and linger in for Ljubljana's residents and visitors.
